WE LOVE KABUKI! (And, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler!)

On Friday, October 14th, Drape Kings was excited to participate in the grand unveiling of Steven Tyler in the Macy’s Herald Square Window. The event, featuring a Drape Kings Kabuki drop rental, debuted the Aerosmith front man as the face of the Andrew Charles Rock ‘n’ Roll clothing line for men and women.

The crowd, expecting perfection and a great show, was delivered nothing but the best when Drape Kings’ dramatic display kicked off what we are sure to be a hugely popular clothing line by Mr. Charles!

Congratulations to everyone involved for a job well done!

Storage and Transport Done Right!

We take pride in our drape during every step of the pipe and drape process. Starting from the way they are constructed, to how are stored and transported. Not only is this important for maintaining the highest Molded Plastic Hamperquality rental drape in the business,  it’s just common sense.

That’s why Drape Kings designs, manufactures, rents, uses, and sells our exclusive lightweight rotomolded plastic, stackable, weather resistant drape hampers.

Each hamper is made of re-cycled plastic with a heavy duty plywood base and 5″ swivel casters.

Hampers come with a separate roto-molded foam filled lids that offer wheel dents for easy stacking.  Sized at 16 bushels, they allow for 5 to 7 – 16′h x 16w drapes depending on the fabric type.

Our competitors’ use any number of  old canvas mail  hampers,  heavy road cases, or just old duffle bags to pack and transport their product.

It’s a “no brainer”. Drape Kings has you covered!

Where’s that Pin Go?

After the base plate, the pin is the foundation of all pipe and drape hardware assemblies. Base pins range range in size from 3″ to 16″ high based on  the height of the upright to be used. However after selectHPIM0001 300x225 Wheres that Pin Go?ing the pin size for your pipe and drape set-up you need to decide      where to screw on the pin.

Standard bases come with three countersunk holes for the pin location, center, center side and corner.
So the question is why would you want more?

Well, the center pin location is always the best choice for stability as it will evenly balance the with of the pipe and drape over the base footprint, however that’s not the only parameter to be considered.

  • You may want to hide the base assembly from the audience
  • Back the drape upright into a corner,
  • Create a “Double Wall”  in line or edge.
  • Double Wall with Quick Track “Pocket Track Drape”

Let’s explore the first and most common  method known as front pinning. By utilizing a front (or edge ) pin location of the base plate the base can be hidden behind the wall of drape. However the one draw back is the plate must be counter balance with additional weight such as a sand bag since the center location has been sacrifice and the upright is off center.

Next you may want to back the pipe and drape wall into a corner. This wil require you to corner pin the drape and move the plate into the corner. On the one hand the drape is in the corner but the base is fully visible. It could discuised by a base plate cover.

Now with the addition of more pin locations the assembly becomes more versatile. One example may be “Double Wall” this  allows the user to build two finnished walls of drape sharing the same base. For example most Drape Kings bases asre fully drilled to 9 holes. HPIM0002 150x150 Wheres that Pin Go?image Wheres that Pin Go?delete Wheres that Pin Go?

Universal Screen Surround meets Europe

After a successful introduction in America at last year’s InfoComm, we’re pleased to introduce the Universal Screen Surround solution to Europe at PLASA 2010.

Drape Kings Skirt / Header Clamp

The Skirt / Header Clamp is for creating an adjustable screen surround. Utilizing two clamps, a screen surround can be created in just about any size, 16:9, 4:3, etc. – up to 16’ wide. The process of setting up a screen surround is easy:

  • Start by assembling your screen; front or rear projection
  • Place two (2) uprights, base and pins to the left and right of the desired image width, using pipe and drape hardware
  • Sleeve a black upright pole-sock over the upright, minimizing any glare or reflection from the pipe
  • Sleeve on the valance to a horiztontal drape support
  • Hook into the top slots of the two uprights
  • Lock the skirt / header clamp onto the upright at the appropriate height for the bottom masking skirt
  • Sleeve skirt onto the horizontal and install between the Skirt / Header Clamps
  • Adjust the fullness of the drape

Other uses include creating knee walls and staggered ceiling solutions.

Step-and-Repeat

Step and Repeat

When I say “Step and Repeat”, you say? It’s not quite pipe and drape, but it’s close.

We’ve had a few questions recently regarding step-and-repeats, or “banner stand-ups” (or a combination of the two!). What are these, and how can Drape Kings help?

What is a Step and Repeat? As referenced on the dictionary.com website

…noting or pertaining to a process by which successive photo-offset plates are produced automatically or semiautomatically with great precision: used esp. in making plates for multicolor printing…

While not much help when it comes to drape or banners, the idea is the same: There is a piece of fabric that is hung on hardware that acts as a backdrop for photographers during an event photo shoot. We’ve all seen it – a person enters the venue, steps up to a platform with a fabric backdrop (with or without advertisements), is photographed, then moves on. The process is repeated for the next entrant. Step, and repeat.

How can Drape Kings help? It’s likely you have the banner ready (if not, we can help!), so you’ll need the hardware to hang it. No problem, here’s what we’ll need to provide the right hardware for your setup:

  • The width of the banner (This will help us pick the right size horizontal for your setup)
  • The height of the banner (This will help us pick the right size uprights for your setup)
  • Is there a pole pocket in the banner? (This pocket is normally found in the back, at the top/bottom of the banner, allowing the it to hang on a horizontal)

Drape Kings Introduces the Skirt-Header Clamp

skirtclamp web 1 Drape Kings Introduces the Skirt Header Clamp

This was taken from Live Design’s InfoComm wrap-up on June 22, 2009.

Drape Kings showed a number of products, including the patent-pending Skirt/Header Clamp for masking any screen from 16:9, 4:3—almost any format—up to 16’ wide. Users can adjust screens down to various ratios. With a few more components, an existing pipe and drape system can serve as a universal screen surround. The system also allows for a continuous wall of drape to accommodate changes in ceiling heights, with no need to add additional uprights. The clamps are sold in pairs cased in a vinyl zippered pouch.
